Android Development – Free Apps Suck Power

Purdue University and Microsoft have recently conducted a study and revealed that about 75 percent battery power a smartphone app draws is used for serving third party advertisements. This study covered several popular smartphone applications like Android Browser, Angry Birds, and other Ravio’s games. It was also reported that app download manager at The New York Times eats-up a great deal of energy even after its main operation, to download news, has completed. The study mainly includes the users who use free app and avoid paying money for removing apps. Android phone software developers have suggested that users should use free app on trial basis and once they find it useful, they should buy it to eliminate ads. Longer you use free apps, sooner the battery life ends. Users should take care of battery because it’s many times costlier than small fee of an app. The study only involved apps for Android, not the apps for Windows Phone or iPhone.

The study was conducted using a tool called eprof. It concluded that a lot of apps spend sizable time in performing I/O functions including accessing Wi-Fi or 3G data. The study also revealed that numerous apps have a hidden feature to keep a device operating in full-power mode even after app’s operation is complete. Rovio’s Angry Birds, for an instance, has third party ad network that eats-up 45 percent of the total power consumed by the app. Opening Android search page in native browser consumes 20,000 µAH and about 31 percent and 16 percent are used for 3G and GPS.

In the testing, a sample app found engaged in establishing connection to remote server and sent 5 packets of data. Even after the app completed its operation, its 3D radio was found active for additional 6 seconds that further wasted 57 present of the total energy consumed by the app.

Hundreds of other apps also behave in similar way and are causing provocation among users. It is also a tough time for Android software development experts whose apps are pointlessly draining battery. The study concluded that the most of energy an app consumed is actually consumed by I/O operations that do not often correlate with the operations the app is made for. Android phone software developers need to reconsider the strategy they follow for developing apps and to calm down their temptation for collecting the personal data from user’s device. This is also advisable that the business communities should go with as fair as possible Android programming that does not suck user’s battery for irrespective I/O operations.

The Applications Of Android System

Data indicates that fifty-eight brands and original equipment manufacturers have released the application terminal of Android platform, and other thirty-three factories are going to release the products with Android platform. The Smart phone is the hottest application, and the tablet computer ranks the second. Most factories are studying the tablet computer, and sixty-one percent of them have declaimed that they will release the new products after the fourth quarter of this year.

The communication products, STB and the IP Phone use this platform actively. This system officially enters family when the Google television is created. The price and content of this product is not mature enough, so it is predicated that the shipment of this television will be 13 million in the year of 2014. For the manufacturers in Taiwan, the DMA product is their direction. It is predicated that the IP phone with the Android platform will apply the large screen to meet customers’ demand of network and multimedia.

Android’s support towards the computer has so many topics, such as the hardware resources management, driving program, output and input management. The Android will become the mainstream of iPad-like terminal platform. When it comes to the consumer electronics, the E-Book uses it most. The emerging of colored E-book will drive more E-Books to use this system. Practitioners in telecommunication area are trying to combine the different strength in this area to drive the development of Wholesale Application Community when their independent development is not so successful. The UI design and development of software application in the Android study field must be concerned by the software factories.

The free application always provides the service of navigation, community, weather, music and so on. The service of document and the hardware management should be paid. The software of tool will be less when the Android is increasing. The related integrated circuit is 2SB805.

Evolution of Android Phones

The mobile phone industry continues to grow by leaps and bounds as it has in the past few decades. With the growth of Smart Phones that not only provide the basic functions expected in a mobile phone but also with the options of sharing and playing multimedia, browsing the internet and so much more, brand new players have entered to capture this market including Apple with the successful iPhone and Research Machines with the equally successful Blackberry and in 2008, Google with the open-source Android operating system for manufacturers. First android phone to appear WAS the G1 from T-Mobile.

Because Android is open source the number of applications available has grown exponentially and sites like The Android Library who provide a library of the latest free and commercial applications now contains a huge database of applications. More and more people are opting for smartphones in this beehive of opportunities, as these powerful machines are providing better features at lesser prices with each passing month. The competition is immense at all levels, be it pricing, looks or specifications. Brands are finding new ways to woo consumers and, therefore, looking to create smartphones that are more powerful and technologically advanced. Android phones also come with a set of attractive features. All the freedom of Android benefits users who value the ability to tinker with the technology they use. Android software has evolved quickly over time, with new features added in each version. Most importantly, a wide range of devices run Android software, including phones from companies like HTC, Samsung and Sony, empowering the users with a variety of choice.

As reported in October 2012, approximately 700,000 apps available for Android, and 25 billion applications were downloaded from Android’s primary app store, Google Play. A survey found that Android is used by 71% of the mobile developer population, making it the most popular app-developer platform. A total of 900 million Android devices have been activated and 48 billion apps have been installed from the Google Play store till May 2013 and the growth has been an exponential one. Android’s share of the global smartphone market, led by Samsung products, was 64% in March 2013. The best-selling smartphone in history, Samsung Galaxy S4, has android 4.2 Jelly bean as its operating system. In July 2013 a total of 11,868 different Android devices and eight OS versions simultaneously were in use. Android’s success has made it a target for patent litigation as part of the “smartphone wars” between technology companies like Samsung and Apple.
